about
This was one of the first songs I wrote after Matthew died. I wrote it and sang it to myself for solace as I drove from the Catskills home to my family for some love and healing time. I never imagined it would end up on my first CD....I never imagined I would record a CD. It become the closing track on "New Shoes", the CD that seemed to come to life of it's own volition, and tossed me lost and tumbling into the unknown. I chose to rerecord it on this EP because it is what brought me to music and so clearly represents why I continue to make music: to help others who have lost loved ones move through grief and find their joy once again.
lyrics
Fly and Be Free he said, let me go
You need no anchors tying you to the shore
You’ve got oceans to sail
Blue skies calling you
Fly and Be Free, let me go
I have no more needs for you to fulfill
Its time now you take care of your own
It’s time to live what you’ve learned
And take what you’ve earned
Through the years
Time to Fly and Be Free
Fly and Be Free
That’s the greatest gift that you could give to me
Remember well
That there’s a heaven here on earth and there’s a hell
So shine your light
The love that drew me in and held me tight
Fly and Be Free
So the world can learn from all you learned me
Now that I’m free from all the pain I knew
I’m living on the wind and in your song
So don’t fret over me
For I’ll always be
The angel watching over you
Fly and Be Free
That’s the greatest gift that you could give to me
Remember well
That there’s a heaven here on earth and there’s a hell
So shine your light
The love that drew me in and held me tight
Fly and Be Free
So the world can learn from all you learned me
Fly and Be Free
That’s the greatest gift that you could give to me
Remember well
That there’s a heaven here on earth and there’s a hell
So shine your light
The love that drew me in and held me tight
Fly and Be Free
So the world can learn from all you learned me
Fly and Be Free
That’s the greatest gift that you could give to me
Fly and Be Free
